Voice Cloning
Definition
Voice cloning (also called voice spoofing) is the use of AI speech synthesis to replicate a specific person's voice, often from only a few seconds of sample audio taken from voicemail greetings, earnings calls, or social media. The cloned voice can then say anything the attacker types, in real time.
Why it matters for financial institutions
Voice-based account takeover is now a dominant fraud vector in banking: an attacker with breached personal data and a cloned voice can pass knowledge-based questions and even voice biometric checks, then drain an account within a single customer-service call. Executives are equally exposed — cloned leadership voices are used to pressure staff into urgent wire transfers.
