Synthetic Media
Definition
Synthetic media is any audio, image, video, or text content that has been wholly generated or substantially altered by AI systems. Deepfakes are the impersonation-focused subset of synthetic media; the broader category also covers AI-generated identity documents, fabricated screenshots, and machine-written scripts used in fraud campaigns.
Why it matters for financial institutions
Financial institutions ingest media constantly — ID documents at onboarding, voices in call centers, video in remote authorization. As generative tools become cheap and accessible, every one of those channels can carry synthetic content crafted to defeat verification. Regulators, including FinCEN in its 2024 alert, now explicitly expect institutions to account for synthetic media in their fraud typologies.
How FalsiFind addresses it
FalsiFind detects synthetic generation artifacts across all three modalities from a single API, so institutions can apply consistent screening wherever media enters a decision: KYC, support calls, payment authorization, or dispute evidence.
